One of New Zealands most distinctive voices, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Louis Baker has won over listeners around the globe with his signature offering: slow-cooked modern soul for the people. A critically acclaimed stylist of richly emotive songcraft, Baker reinterprets longstanding American and British musical traditions through a laidback coastal lens. Since the early 2010s, he has established himself as a captivating guitarist and powerhouse vocalist with an ear for head-nod grooves hailing from Wellington, the capital city of Aotearoa (New Zealand).

Over the last thirteen years, Louis has released a series of well-loved singles, EPs and his debut album Open. Between days spent songwriting or recording in the studio, he’s entertained ever-growing audiences at festivals and concert halls across Australia, Europe, the UK, and his home country while sharing stages with Jordan Rakei, Allen Stone, Jamie Lidell, and Fat Freddy’s Drop. In a testament to his ubiquity, in recent years, Baker’s voice has also been heard on an array of well-loved dance, hip-hop and alternative pop records by Ta-Ku, Maisey Rika, Stan Walker and Team Dynamite.

In 2020, after honing his craft with a who’s who of top-level UK and US songwriters and record producers, including Lindy Robbins (Jason Derulo), Brad Ellis (Jorja Smith), and Steve Rusch (Solange), Louis decided to take the next creative step and self-produce. Since then, he’s been working from his home studio, lovingly crafting his songs from the ground up. Released through his independent label, Ngākau Records, Baker’s music showcases his depth and versatility as a lifelong artist with plenty more stories to tell.
